Kale Detox Smoothie

Yes, there are a gazillion smoothie recipes out there, but I love this one for those times I want to slurp up 100% healthiness. It’s full of antioxidants and other micronutrients with berries and kale, and the citrus and ginger give it a zing that will keep you drinking more and more. I was surprised it didn’t need any sweetener. It also keeps well in the fridge for the next day.

Makes a 16-ounce smoothie

Add all the ingredients to a blender or “bullet”-type blender and blend until smooth. Add more liquid if needed.

  • 1.5 cups mixed berries and/or chopped mango and/or chopped peaches (fresh or frozen) (or other fruit of your choice)

  • 1 cup chopped, packed kale leaves (stems okay) (1 large leaf, 2 small, or packed baby kale)

  • 1/2 cup water or coconut water 

  • Juice from 1 orange (or 1/2 cup orange juice)

  • Juice from half a large lemon or 1 small lemon (or 1.5 Tablespoons)

  • 1.5 Tablespoons chopped fresh ginger

Timing: About 10 minutes
